Recent Updates - 08/07/2020

Dear MCL Member Clubs

After carefully reviewing the latest updates ref our member clubs, the MCL committee has come to a decision to only allow cricket in 2020 for MCL member clubs to be played on a friendly basis. Those clubs who have their ‘Home ground’ access for playing, to firstly host/confirm the fixture with the respective opposition with first option being where possible per the scheduled League fixtures. It is recommended this is implemented from the 18 July 2020 in order for the clubs to have their home grounds prepared incorporating the Guidelines which we will have later this week (per the Govt and ECB)

While we understand this may be disappointing that no cricket for the remainder of the season ahead will be played in a league format, the MCL committee is determined to help facilitate cricket being played and are therefore providing member clubs with the following guidelines.

  1. Member clubs as much as possible should play the fixtures as was scheduled per the League season , however for those clubs whose home grounds are not yet available are free to organise alternative matches (with MCL Clubs or other clubs outside of the Championship league)
  2. The format of the game can be decided by the clubs themselves (Please confirm costs to be shared etc with the home club) and games are played in keeping with the ‘Spirit of Cricket’, Club League contacts are on the MCL website under clubs section.
  3. The MCL will provide the opportunity for clubs to purchase cricket balls for friendly matches organised. The cost remains at £11.40 per Lords International ball. Please contact Kumar (aap.kumar (at) yahoo.com) by Tuesday 14 July and he will provide further information regarding payment and collection – Ball collection on 16 July at the London Post Office Sports and Social Club and he will confirm timings etc.
  4. MCL will also assist in providing panel umpires if member clubs wish to have them. The cost will be the same as previous seasons at £50 per umpire or £70 for Single Umpire covering both ends. If you would like to have a panel umpire please contact Panel Co-ordinator Magesh (mageshvdev (at) yahoo.com) with your requirements so he can assist as much as possible with the available resources.
  5. Match Reports and Results not required to be submitted to the League as all matches are on Friendly basis.
  6. New player registration not required for 2020.
  7. As the match status is on Friendly basis, the League Committtee will not be involved in any Disciplinary matters BUT we remind all clubs to play in the Spirit of the Game.
  8. Taking into consideration the financial impact by this Pandemic on Club Revenues, the committee has agreed the MCL Subscription fees to be waived for the Season (£35 per team entered). The 7 clubs that have already paid their fees (before the Lockdown started) will be reimbursed in total which Kumar will arrange. Any outstanding fees (Fines) from last year of monies owed should be paid immediately and these will be detailed.

We provide some information about getting your clubhouse ready and also includes a risk assessment template which we strongly suggest member clubs prepare. All available on the ECB website at here , Checklist for Getting your Clubhouse Ready and Risk Assessment

We hope the above is clear and we appreciate every MCL member clubs understanding and co-operation with the focus being to get the games started. Know we all agree its been a most difficult and challenging past three months, so Lets work together and continue the progress to get to 2021 and for normality to return. As maintained from the start of the Lockdown since early April 2020, we will maintain updates with each member clubs and wish you a safe and enjoyable playing season. Any queries, please email me and we will do our best to assist and resolve any issues.

Stay Safe and with kind regards

Dear MCL Member Clubs

We do hope you and your family and friends are keeping well. The MCL Committee have had further discussions (by video conference) on the 2020 season and it has been agreed the first half of the season will be cancelled, similar to what the Middlesex County Cricket League (MCCL) is effecting. Hence the earliest potential start date could be the 11th July 2020 subject to getting the approval and recommendation from the governmental guidelines and all clubs getting the use of their respective grounds via their Boroughs.

There is still too much uncertainty regarding any restart of recreational team sport to make any other announcement at this stage however the MCL Exec is committed to having a competitive league season in 2020 if this is possible within governmental guidelines. We will keep all member clubs updated on a regular basis and please do share any relevant info in case we have not covered this.

Just for reference we are resending the below link and please ensure all your club members are made aware of the same for their and player safety and well being.

Unfortunately, but for obvious reasons, we still do not have a date when we can contemplate the restart of recreational cricket.

Here is the latest announcement from the ECB.

Stay safe and with kind regards
